Le Corbusier was one of the most important architects of the twentieth century. Born in Switzerland in 1887 and later a French citizen, Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris was also an urban planner, a painter and a designer and is considered a brilliant thinker of the reality of his time, capable of merging architecture with the social needs of contemporary man. In the second half of his life, Le Corbusier coined the term "Synthesis of the Arts" to express his ambition to unify painting and sculpture under the aegis of architecture. The exhibition Le Corbusier: Synthesis of the Arts 1930–1965 highlights his paintings, sculptures, drawings and tapestries from the 1930s onwards, as well as his artistic use of new construction technologies, offering a new perspective on an artist often associated with the concept of the house as a "machine for living".
