Considered the most significant literary event in Southeast Asia, attracting major international writers, poets and playwrights, and now in its 21st year, the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival will be under the banner of "Satyam Vada Dharmam Chara", a title that originates from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. Translated as "Speak the truth, practice kindness", it highlights two essential human qualities. The phrase is linked to a very similar philosophical concept in Balinese Hinduism, the "Tri Pramana", which refers to the three powers of human beings: Bayu (wind), Sabda (speech) and Idep (mind), representing the ability to live, speak and think. In line with this theme, the literary festival aims to make people reflect on the influence and importance of literature amid rapid technological advances, the spread of information and current events, based on the principles of truth and integrity.
