Considered one of the leaders of the Chinese Conceptual Movement in the 1980s, Wu Shanzhuan was the first Chinese artist to assimilate pop text references into his work. He has carved out a prominent place for himself thanks to his experimental works made with text language, which began already when he attended the China Academy of Art. From that moment on, all of Wu's research has sought to express the aesthetic value of Chinese characters as an art form. Over 100 works, made since 1985, have been selected for the exhibition at the Long March Space gallery. Through his creations, Wu reflects on the transformations taking place in modern and contemporary Chinese text and language, extending to the new textual phenomena of the Internet and SMS era.
