Faithful to the mission of celebrating universal creativity and cultural exchanges, for the 5th anniversary of the museum, the Louvre Abu Dhabi presents two extraordinary loans to the public. For the first time ever, artifacts from the Philippines, from the Ayala Museum, will be displayed at the Louvre Abu Dhabi until June 2023. The loans include a cup (900-1200 AD), found in Nabuare in the province of Camarines Sur, which shows the extraordinary similarity of the works from the Philippines with Chinese pieces in gold and silver, acquired by the Louvre Abu Dhabi in 2019, thus expanding the geographical area relative to the commerce of precious metals during ancient times and accentuating the correlation between Chinese, Islamic and South-East Asian cultures. The other loan is a funerary mask (900-1200 AD), from the city of Butuan, which highlights the theme of the after-life and immortality, along with the ancestral search for a conection between life and death. This artifact is currently displayed along with other similar pieces from the East and South America, highlighting shared traditions.
