Indonesian artist Citra Sasmita transforms the spaces of The Curve into her first solo exhibition in the UK. Through painting, installation, embroidery and scent, Sasmita offers a sensory journey exploring ancestral memory, ritual and migration. The artist engages with a fifteenth-century Indonesian painting technique called Kamasan, traditionally used to narrate Hindu epics. A typically male artistic practice, Sasmita reclaims it to dismantle antiquated ideas of Balinese culture and confront its violent colonial past.
