The Winners of the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards

Now in its seventeenth edition, the Sony World Photography Awards represent a prestigious event with international photography, able to highlight the works and stories that have most struck in the last year. A selection of 160 photographs taken by 52 different authors are on display in Milan. The winner of the prestigious title of Photographer of the Year is the French photographer Juliette Pavy with the work entitled Spiralkampagnen: Forced Contraception and Unintended Sterilisation of Greenlandic Women, a denunciation of the campaign of contraception and forced sterilization against Greenlandic women, imposed by the Danish authorities during the 60s and 70s. Many Italians are represented. Federico Scarchilli with the Flora series triumphed in the Still Life category. Davide Monteleone earned 3rd place for Documentary, with the series Critical Minerals – Geography of Energy. Jean-Marc Caimi and Valentina Piccinni won 2nd place for Environment, with the series Tropicalia while Maurizio Di Pietro won 3rd place for Environment, with the series Zero Hunger and Tommaso Pardini in the Sport section, successfully presented the series Surf in Dakar. The Sustainability Prize, linked to works that reflect on environmental issues, was won by Kathleen Orlinsky (United States) with the series America’s First Wilderness focused on the landscape, wildlife and population in New Mexico.
