Tony Cragg's sculpture as a tool for investigating the world

Great sensitivity and a deep knowledge of the history of art guide Tony Cragg in his research. This is demonstrated by his exhibition set up in the geometric environments of Roman archaeology: here the sinuous forms of the works by the English artist enter into perfect harmony with the surrounding space in a harmonious way. The Great Halls of the Baths of Diocletian are scattered with new and disconcerting sculptures, created by Cragg with experimental techniques and materials and with the curiosity of a scientist-alchemist. The title of the exhibition echoes the words of Charles Darwin: "infinite forms and beautiful" evokes the unstoppable enthusiasm of the scientist in front of the richness of the natural world and the wonder that arouses thought itself, never satisfied with facing the knowledge of reality, in the inexhaustible wealth of forms and models. Like a scientist, the artist uses sculpture as a tool of investigation, thinks and recreates new forms without placing limits on the use of means and materials.
