A Journey through Art with Doug Aitken

A Journey through Art with Doug Aitken
#Art

The Faurschou Foundation presents the first personal exhibition in China of American artist Doug Aitken. An experiential itinerary which calls upon the public to play along and question the very concept of what an exhibition should be. To undertake this visit, it is necessary to strip away all preconceptions of museum spaces and the usual exhibitions. The journey begins with a totally dark corridor which opens, after just a handful of steps through total disorientation, onto a hexagonal space filled with projections, mirrors and sounds. It is absolutely necessary to take the time to immerse oneself in the artificial and evanescent space created by the fleeting presentation of various figurative situations. Using images, forms and sounds, the works conceptualise the idea that the artist has of the world - a kinetic world in which everything is synchronised, in which spatial and temporal distances are annihilated, in which man, constantly connected and immersed in a flow of diverse stimuli, lives in social solitude. Solitude is well-represented by the second room - a completely dark space in which three motionless but luminous human figures stand. Finally, the tension which leads the public to a sort of emotional crescendo, melts away in the third room which, illuminated by a reassuring natural light, calms the souls of the public, along with the delightful sound of running water. An exhibition that goes beyond all confines.
