A Mix of Photos Offer a Testimony of Daily Life

A Mix of Photos Offer a Testimony of Daily Life
#Exhibitions

Three-hundred works by the greatest names in international photography document the evolution, changes and problems of the globalised society in which we live. The exhibition represents a point of departure in re-igniting a debate which has been ongoing for at least twenty five years, but without any desire to spark yet another pointless discussion - rather, it is a tacit denouncement of the enormous changes which have occurred over the last decades, unmasked and laid bare by the knowing use of the photographic lens, offering, what’s more, an opportunity to appreciate the development of this artistic language. The exhibition is broken down into eight sections, to be interpreted as eight different points of view to exploring the same theme - daily life. Hive starts the iconographic dissertation by analysing the systems of co-habitation which have developed in urban settings; as counterpoint, the next section Alone Together takes on the sense of alienation and solitude that pervades contemporary society. The exhibition continues with the section Flow which bears witness to the acceleration of industrial production processes and the subsequent inequitable creation of wealth. The chapter Persuasion reveals the power of marketing strategies and consumer habits; the section Control, meanwhile, examines the need of order and structure in society, while Rupture, in contrast, looks at the points of breakdown in social order. Escape explores recreation, ruled by concepts of relaxation, fun, adventure and the quest for powerful sensations, typical of our times. The exhibition closes with a narrative that considers humanity’s end, leaving the spectator in a limbo among questions and provocations.
