Chen Qin, People Dancing on the Road, 2024, Oil on canvas, 130 × 150 cm | Courtesy Tang Contemporary Art

The landscape from which Chen Qin comes is a source of inspiration for her research and her works. Raised in the coastal area of Ssouthern Fujian, a humid region where lush mangroves abound, the artist observes nature and projects her vision of female identity onto it. Just as mangroves develop extensive root systems and thick foliage to withstand the harsh environment of sea water, so the women portrayed by Chen Qin blend into the environment that surrounds them. Represented as intertwining lines, which dance freely on the canvas, her female figures are an expression of strength. Subtle emotions linked to the memory of her mother and the intimacy with her daughter emerge from the canvases, revealing the artist's dual identity, vital and powerful. An invitation to reflect on human existence.
