Hao Shiming is a philosopher artist known to the public for his research aimed at combining tradition and modernity. He draws the themes of his poetics from the studies of ancient Chinese astronomers who lived during the Han Dynasty, which can be traced back to the search for an immutable law that regulates the universe and the world we live in. Are the invisible forces that regulate the motion of the planets the same ones that determine the interaction between earthly things?
Hao Shiming's works exhibited at the HdM Gallery are mostly works on paper that take up traditional Chinese calligraphy in an abstract form that balances order and readability and at the same time recalls some forms of Western painting.
