Language shapes the world. Artists Li Ran, Liu Xiaodong, Laure Prouvost, Wael Shawky and Shen Xin are fully convinced of this and are participating in the group show currently underway at the Lisson Gallery. The title, Another Tongue of Mine, evokes a text that the Chinese writer Wang Meng wrote when he was learning a language, Uyghur. Just as language is a subjective and not at all neutral medium, capable of interfacing different narratives, the works on display have been imagined to create a system of connection and dialogue through different forms and texts. The investigation focuses on the symbols and systems of language that shape our perception of reality.
