A Journey Through Luxury, from Antiquity to Today

A Journey Through Luxury, from Antiquity to Today
#Exhibitions

What is the concept of luxury and how has it changed over the centuries? These are the questions behind the exhibition 10,000 Thousand of Luxury, hosted at the Louvre of Abu Dhabi and organised in collaboration with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs the Agence France-Muséums. The exhibition includes over 350 objects from 30 different nations. Twelve halls of the museum have been arranged chronologically, creating a historical and geographical itinerary that explores the types and evolution of luxury in various cultures, from antiquity to our times. An Egyptian rug from the XV Century, the reconstruction of a Parisian boutique from the XVIII Century, an example of the work of Marchand-Mercier and the first forms of commercial luxury, an hourglass by Australian designer Marc Newson, are just a few of the examples of the wonders to be admired at this exhibition. And, of course, there is also a section dedicated to fashion with numerous iconic looks, both vintage and current, from stylists that made history such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, Azzedine Alaïa, Maison Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès and many others. Particular attention is paid to the techniques and materials which allow certain objects to be defined as luxury items and which also differ, depending on the context and historical period. The exhibition is enriched by a vast calendar of events, including concerts, meetings, screenings, interactive activities and installations.
