Emotions of the Present

Emotions of the Present
#Exhibitions

Hope, desperation, frustration, solitude, uncertainty - a seemingly infinite number of sentiments can be found in the works on display at Dubai’s Ayyam Gallery in the collective exhibition entitled Echoes & Perceptions. The emblematic title refers to the echoes that the artworks create and the perceptions of the observer, inevitably subjective. A vital dialogue which contains infinite possibilities. Solitude and individualism are the echoes in the work of Kais Salman, acrylic on canvas in which the artist depicts multiple figures with no ties between them. In the triptych of Safwan Dahoul Dream 146, a woman’s body, doubled over on itself, is shown in different ways but alway stuck in the same instant of suffering. Hope seems to be the key to the man depicted by Sadik Alfraji, in You May Take a Break, who is also hunched over, but towards a flower. And while the work of Faisal Samra, Performance #36, is the close-up of a face totally covered by a turban, the photo of Sama Alshaibi, Al Ṭarīqah (The Path), begins from below, cutting off the upper part of the figure to focus on the ground on which it stands. The other participating artists are Athier Mousawi, Farzad Kohan, Abdul-Karim Majdal Al-Beik and Afshin Pirhashemi.
