The exhibition Venice Goes to Dubai marks the beginning of an artist dialogue between the two city, promoted and nurtured by the Akka Project Gallery, present in both Dubai and Venice. For this first event, works of the glass sculptor Mauro Bonaventura and the painter Davide Battistin, were chosen, both Venetian artists whose work, while differing in technique and style, are both linked by an exploration of light and colour. The works of Bonaventura are objects with complex forms, sinuous lines of coloured glass that contain both male and female bodies, cages that express an interesting tension between the fragility of the material and such a closed form while still dialoguing with the external. Meanwhile, Davide Battistin is a painter who makes a well-consolidated tradition all his own. Light and colour are used by the the artist to capture Venice in those instances of the landscape where confines and form fade. The commonplace loses sharpness, its contours dissolving into stunning transformative chromatic effects.
