It is one of the most romantic stories of the XX Century. A feisty young woman, a prostitute out of necessity, becomes as elegant as a princess and conquers the heart of a gruff and lonely businessman in Los Angeles. Among the ingredients of the film’s success, now turning 30, a memorable soundtrack and two unforgettable actors - Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Now the fable Pretty Woman: The Musical comes to the West End, on stage at the Piccadilly Theatre. The play, on stage until January of 2021, features the direction and choreography of Jerry Mitchell, two-time winner of the Tony Award (Broadway’s top prize) and original music composed by Grammy-winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. The libretto was written by the legendary Garry Marshall (1934 - 2016), director of the 1990 film and J.F. Lawton, the film’s screenwriter. The lead character Vivian Ward is played by Aimie Atkinson, having acted in the musical Six at the Arts Theatre. Her performance landed her a nomination for an Olivier Award. Edward Lewis is played by Danny Mac. Among the other lead characters, Rachael Wooding plays the role of Vivian’s friend, Kit De Luca. The actress has performed in We Will Rock You and in Hairspray. The world premier of Pretty Woman: The Musical occurred in Chicago two years ago and then the show moved on to Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre. A German production was launched at the Theater an der Elbe in Hamburg last September.
