Chantal Akerman was a Belgian director, screenwriter, artist, best known for her films Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975), News from Home (1976) and Je Tu Il Elle (1974), considered by critics internationally as "one of the most significant directors of our times." Akerman, who passed away in 2015, was certainly one of the most influential voices in the panorama of feminist and avant-garde cinema of the 70s and 80s of the last century. Starting from the beginnings in Brussels to the final installations, the exhibition at Jeau de Paume will follow a journey full of images and archives that want to be questioned, explained and transmitted to discover this dense artistic work. The exhibition will evoke an intense and surprising life, from burlesque to tragedy, from musical comedy to the pain of the world.
