The Palais Galliera presents the work of British designer Stephen Jones, undoubtedly one of the greatest contemporary milliners, from his first collections in the 1980s to his most recent ones. The exhibition focuses on the theme of the hat, a clothing accessory that is elevated here to the rank of a work of art. A member of the London “New Romantics” movement, it was thanks to his encounters in the world of music, particularly with Boy George, that Stephen Jones took his first steps in the world of fashion. He collaborated with haute couture and gradually built close ties with leading houses and designers: Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Comme des Garçons, Walter Van Beirendonck, Louis Vuitton. With nearly 400 works, the exhibition brings together more than 170 hats, archives (preparatory drawings, photographs, extracts from fashion shows, etc.) as well as around forty complete silhouettes of dresses and hats.
