“As an artist, you have to be very individualistic and go on alone sometimes” - from this affirmation and a journey that lasted 18 months, following the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières, comes the photographic project So.lil.o.quy, started by Alec Von Bargen in 2015. The title Solo should not be interpreted as being monologic, but rather the people who raise their voices about conflicts, trying to find solutions to their problems. And so Alec Von Bargen followed several missions throughout the world of MSF, next to the doctors that offer volunteer service in areas of intense conflict, climactic emergencies and humanitarian crises. The photography of Alec manages to gather aesthetic values that echo throughout various historic, political and social contexts, right at the very confines of life itself. His work focuses on human nature and seeks to get the viewer to question. They are seemingly simple and spontaneous images, portraits without stylistic artifice, but charged with intuition and suspended interrogatives. Alec gathers looks and expressions which capture the emotions and attention of the spectator and allow’s one to imagine the interior monologues of the subjects, often victims of deafening silence from society, from the world. Traces of humanity in search of a voice.
