The Otake brothers were three very prolific and well-known Japanese artists. Born in Niigata Prefecture, Etsudo (1868 - 1931), Chikuha (1878 - 1936), and Kokukan (1880 - 1945) achieved success in several exhibitions, including the Ministry of Education Art Exhibition from the Meiji to Showa Era. They were also experimenters who attempted very radical changes in the art they created, garnering praise but also much criticism from the public of their time. This exhibition is the first to present the Otake brothers in Tokyo, and displays not only their most important works, but also lesser-known works discovered recently. This is an opportunity to learn about the artistic practice of the Otake brothers and also to delve deeper into their life and personality.
