Art and Meditation to Discover New Visual Possibilities

Art and Meditation to Discover New Visual Possibilities
#Exhibitions

That Buddhism is a key element of Chinese and Oriental culture is well-known; lesser-known and studied is the influence that Buddhism has had, and continues to have, on Chinese contemporary art. The exhibition Silent Thunder, focused on the works of Chen Lizhu, Chu Bingchao, Liao Fei and Shao Yi - artists of different generations and expressive languages - seeks to fill in the gap by offering reflections on the interaction between the practice of Buddhism, particularly Chan Buddhism, revolving around meditation, and contemporary art. Thus, the exhibition offers works inspired by Buddhist classics from the Tang and Song epochs, offering new visual possibilities. Tone upon tone works coexist with minimalist installations, using natural or found materials, sculptural objects with varying textures echoing multidisciplinary works that reveal the power of Buddhism and its influence which transcends temporal boundaries.
