The Tastes of Yan Shijie, Well-Known Collector

The Tastes of Yan Shijie, Well-Known Collector
#Exhibitions

Located just steps away from one of the longest-standing artistic districts of the Chinese capital - Yihaodi, also known as Art Base No.1 - in an area rich in artist and designer studios, the Red Brick Art Museum unites its now-iconic structure, famed for its tell-tale red bricks and one of the most eclectic and visionary collections among private museums. This exhibition is proof. Focused on the works of Olafur Eliasson, Huang Yongping, Andreas Mühe, Tony Oursler and Tatiana Trouvé, the collective offers an idea of the aesthetic and conceptual trajectory followed by the museum’s founder Yan Shijie in amassing his personal collection. The exhibition moves from the dramatic tension oozing from the monumental installation by Huang Yongping Circus, to the intensity of the faces in the video installation Bilocation by Tony Oursler, up to the pathos and surreal atmospheres of the photos of Andreas Mühe. An invitation to change your point of view can be found in the manifesto of the installation 750 Points Towards Infinity by Tatiana Trouvé; while Olafur Eliasson, whose work is amply collected by Yan Shijie - one of his first big admirers in China - presents, with the work Tomorrow Resonator, a further reflection on light and its potential.
