Generally, they can rarely be seen and by appointment only. Yet, now the British Museum throws open its doors to whoever would like to admire, during its normal visiting hours, one of the largest collections of works on paper by Rembrandt. In the year of the 350th Anniversary of the death of the Dutch genius, in fact, the celebrated British museum has decided to offer the public a look at the extraordinary drawings of the artist. The selection recaps the development of the artist over his 60-year career. And so, the drawing of a young woman sleeping, the portrait of his wife Saskia, the sketches of a man sitting with a child on his knee and a child who teasingly takes the hat off a man, allow one to follow the development of a master, permitting the public to appreciate the evolution of his infinite creativity through his works on paper. On display, there will also be various prints of self-portraits - such as the unique one where the artist depicts himself without his hat - along with numerous religious subjects, such as Saint Jerome.
