Sixty years after the festival FLuxus Internationale Festspiele Neuester Musik in Wiesbaden, an exhibition looks at the movement born at the end of the 1950s and the start of the 1960s, thanks to Lithuanian artist and architect George Maciunas. The goal of the aesthetic and social revolution of Fluxus, developing, above all, in the United States, Europe and Japan, was to interweave visual and performing arts, experimental music and theatre, eliminating the divisions in art and promoting an art for everybody. The exhibition Fluxus, Arte per Tutti. Edizioni Italiane dalla Collezione Luigi Bonotto invites the public of the Museo del Novecento to examine, analysing for the first time, through publications, works and documents, the key role of Italy in the Fluxus movement. Italy took part in the spread of Fluxus with significant contributions in the production of “editions” - objects, graphic folders, various artist books and works created by patrons along with the protagonists of the movement, such as Eric Andersen, Joseph Beuys and George Brecht. The idea of an art which was accessible to all was flanked by the idea of an “inundation” which was manifested in small editions. Small objects that, like water, could show up anywhere, bringing with them this new aesthetic vision of the world, characterised by these Fluxus creations. Starting in the 1960s, the Collezione Bonotto gathered various examples, including works, magazines, books and posters from Fluxus artists. The multiple pieces and the editions on display explore the change of a work of art, from an object for the elite, destined to a few wealthy enthusiasts, to a cheap object, accessible and available for purchase by anyone, sometimes even accompanied by an “instruction manual”.
