Giuseppe Verdi's last opera, Falstaff is a lyrical comedy in three acts, inspired by Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV, the historical drama in which the figure of Sir John Falstaff first appeared. The opera was performed for the first time in Milan on February 9, 1893 and subsequently inaugurated the opera seasons of the Teatro alla Scala in 1921, 1936 and 1980, proving to be the most performed opera with thirty-four seasons and two hundred and nine performances. And now Daniele Gatti, protagonist of a memorable edition of Falstaff in 2015 with the brilliant show by Robert Carsen, returns to the La Scala pit six years after his last conducting with a version of the historic production set in the Po Valley.
