A look at people, without rhetoric, and at the experiences of reflection, prayer, hope and desperation of 50 inmates at the Opera Prison in Milan. The lens of photographer Margherita Lazzati, with delicacy and determination, invites us to break down the walls of the prison to embrace this integral part of society. The 50 images in black and white of the artist, more than showing what life is like in the prison, invite the spectator to question this reality on a deeper level. The photos depict inmates, volunteers, religious ministers, agents, all belonging to differing religious communities, as they engage their faiths and beliefs, capturing them in various moments of prayer and sharing. And it is exactly for this reason that the exhibition Fotografie in Carcere. Manifestazioni della Libertà Religiosa can be found in the spaces of the Diocesan Museum Carlo Maria Martini, finding its fullest sense of being, in harmony with the identity of the institution itself which, through the power of art, seeks to raise questions regarding the meaning and desire of beauty.
The exhibition returns to Gallery Focus, the documentary itinerary of the history of the Italian art galleries that, from the 1950s to today, contributed to defining the identity of contemporary art in Italy.
