Large sculptures comprised of two halves made of different materials, installed as if they were disjointed parts of a possible whole, similar to a child’s game, dialogue with the spaces, both inside and out, of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, in a deliberately odd disposition. Raise your hand, whoever, since childhood, was not used to assembling puzzles, developing a mental attitude, according to which, everything would necessarily fit together properly. Yet, the sculptures of the Iranian visual artist Nairy Baghramian, protagonist of Misfits - the new exhibition in the Furla Series, the series of exhibitions promoted by the Fondazione Furla - will get you accustomed to the very opposite idea. These forms don’t fit together perfectly, offering the experience of the error, of imperfection as the only real possibility, inviting us to discover the beauty of imperfect matches and generating a landslide of appropriate revelations. Positing some of the constitutive elements of the artist’s work - from an interest to rethink the confines between inside and outside to the ties that unite a work of art with time itself and the political-social fabric in which it is created - the idea of Misfits originates from the urban context which hosts the GAM, an English garden which has the peculiarity of being accessible to adults only if they are accompanied by a child. Theses contrasts trap visitors between a protected and playful universe and the sense of frustration regarding its accessibility.
