The project for the Torre Velsca, a famous icon of Milan and the first multi-storey building in Italy, took shape in 1949. It was conceived as a symbol of reconstruction, following the devastation inflicted by the heavy Anglo-American bombings of the Second World War on the Lombard city. Then the task was entrusted to Studio BBPR, which erected the building between 1955 and 1957 in an undefined architectural style, ascribed to Neoliberty and Postmodernism. Today, after the recent acquisition of the Studio BBPR Archive, the MAXXI Architetture Archive Centre is retracing the history of one of the studio's most successful projects through an exhibition. A symbol of the economic miracle, the Tower was as loved as it was hated, criticized and admired. For the occasion, it will be possible to explore the building in augmented reality (AR) and immersive reality (VR), and tactile models are planned for the main sections of the exhibition, useful for visitors with visual disabilities to understand the space and the creative process.
