Rome Becomes the Capital of Cinema
#Festival
The 2026 Rome Film Fest will open with Paolo Genovese's The Noise of New Things

Rome once again turns into a vast open celebration of cinema. The 21st edition of the Rome Film Fest brings international premieres, stars, directors and new stories to the Italian capital, with its main hub at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, designed by Renzo Piano. Its famous red carpet and theatres will be at the heart of a programme extending to other cultural venues across the city. Opening the festival is Il rumore delle cose nuove by Paolo Genovese, the Italian director internationally known for Perfect Strangers, one of the most remade films in cinema history. His new film is an ensemble story following three couples whose seemingly settled lives are disrupted by an unexpected event. Under the artistic direction of Paola Malanga, the festival combines an international competition with premieres, encounters with directors and actors, special screenings and tributes. But its appeal lies above all in its atmosphere: less exclusive than many major film festivals, it invites audiences to take part. For a few days, Rome is not simply a setting for cinema, it becomes one of its leading characters.
