Art Looks at Bitcoin
#Art

Chronus Art Center (CAC), founded in Shanghai in 2013, is a pioneering space, being the first non-commercial institution in China dedicated to the creation and exploration of work revolving around art and technology as well as art and new media. The new exhibition Crypto_Manifold is no exception - this collective exhibition presents the works of Chinese and international artists exploring the multitude of applications of bitcoin technology. The 9 projects on display are by !Mediengruppe Bitnik, CHEN Baoyang, Simon Denny, Grayson Earle, Sarah Friend, Marija Bozinovska Jones, Paul Kolling & Max Hampshire & Paul Seidler, Matthias Tarasiewicz, Lina Theodorou & Rob Myers and they take on various issues from DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) to crypto currency and crypto algorithms, placing the spectator at the centre of a reflection which is increasingly present and necessary on how technology alters human behaviour and directs it, transforming the trajectories of lives as well as their capacity to participate in the creation of new topological spaces. The exhibition questions whether bitcoin can resolve future financial crises, ending financial disparities, or if it will, rather, create technological corruption based on digital consolidations of power obtained through the use of this new form of capital.
