The World According to Li Liao with a Healthy Dose of Irony
#Art

Young artist Li Liao, born in 1982 in the province of Hubei, a performer and video artist, uses Anacatesthesia to present, for the first time, his new series Don’t Know begun in 2019. The art of Li Liao concentrates on the absurdities in daily life and takes on questions relating to the managing of public and private spaces in light of a world dominated by consumerism. His body of work challenges the distinctions between daily life and art, as well as those between the public and private sphere. The approach of Li Liao is often based on the use of his own body, his personal experiences, his physical efforts as an object-subject acting on the social fabric and quotidian tasks, drawing to the surface latent aspects which might otherwise pass unnoticed. The artist - through irony and paradox - questions the familiar, where it comes from and the mechanisms that regulate it, creating works that allow the public the possibility to reflect and question their very own reasons for being.
