Journey into the Biedermeier Universe

An exhibition exploring the evolution of Viennese design from the Biedermeier period to the end of the 19th century. Through a selection of artworks, furniture, and decorative objects, the exhibition highlights how the tastes and lifestyles of the Viennese bourgeoisie influenced applied arts and design.​ The Biedermeier period (1815-1848) is characterized by an aesthetic that emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and domestic intimacy. This style reflected the values of the emerging middle class, focusing on comfortable interiors and a sober yet elegant design. As the fin de siècle approached, Vienna became a hub of artistic innovation, giving rise to movements like the Vienna Secession, which sought to break away from academic traditions and embrace new forms of expression.​ The exhibition offers an overview of this transitional period, showcasing how Viennese design evolved while maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity.
