Cecil Beaton (1904 - 1980) was one of the most important British artists of the twentieth century. He was a master fashion photographer and a creator of beautiful portraits, but also a war photographer, a painter and an interior designer. As a costume and set designer for theatre and film at the height of his career he won three Academy Awards and four Tony Awards. Elevating fashion and portrait photography to an art form, his era-defining photographs captured the beauty, glamour and star power of the inter-war and post-war period. The exhibition highlights his most triumphant period from the Jazz Age and the Bright Young Things, to the high fashion brilliance of the 1950s and the glittering success of My Fair Lady.
