Uzbek Voices of the Contemporary

In a world overwhelmed by an inexorable process of globalization, local cultures rooted in centuries-old traditions are about to be swept away. Citizens of the world, artists from peripheral regions, come into contact with the transformative forces of the new, balanced between past and future, and observe the change, recording what happens before their eyes. Saodat Ismailova is an Uzbek artist who lives and works between Paris and Tashkent. Her field of action mixes the languages ​​of cinema, sound and visual art. For the content, Ismailova draws on the socio-political and cultural heritage of her homeland, Central Asia, to evoke universal themes. Memories overlap, different landscapes, images, times and stories, both personal and collective, emerge: the cultural, social and political reality that the artist describes is complex. The exhibition brings together twelve works, six films and seven sculptures, which explore the concept of transmission and the idea that is dear to the artist and which she summarizes in the phrase "we are responsible for the seven generations that preceded us and the seven that will come after us."
