Japanese artist Masaomi Yasunaga makes his China debut with an exhibition at Lisson Gallery, presenting experimental vase sculptures and new mosaic works. Recognized for his innovative techniques, Yasunaga has redefined the expressive potential of ceramics, exploring the role of the vase through time. Inspired by cobblestone streets, shaped over time by the trampling of countless footsteps, the exhibition reflects on how the passage of mankind leaves indelible traces and lasting memories. The works evoke physical and spiritual themes, while the gallery floor, which records the footprints of visitors, symbolizes the permanence of humanity. Trained by Satoru Hoshino, Yasunaga continues the legacy of the avant-garde group Sodeisha, favoring the sculptural form rather than the functional use of the object.
