The collective exhibition Entangled: Bio/Media explores and redefines the notion of Bio Media and Bio Art, liberating the latter from stereotypes that often oversimplify it into an artistic discipline that works with bacteria, genetic and trans-genic material using technological means. However, Bio Art is much more - it is a viable instrument for answering the most urgent contemporary questions regarding the redefinition of life, paradigms that regulate natural evolution, the relationship between the biological and technological, the desire of symbiotic relationships between physical beings (nature), technological beings (the artificial sphere) and psychic beings (living beings), towards the end of rethinking new balances in a post-human world order. The first chapter of the exhibition - articulated in various sections - is Transcoding. In this section, the rhythm of inorganic matter is the protagonist of the work of Cao Shuyi; the dynamism, the collaboration, the flow of energy through diverse species is the theme explored in the video of Anastasiia Raina, Huang Danlei, Meredith Binnette, Georgina Nolan and Hu Yimei. This chapter is not only a reflection on how to reconcile emotions, perceptions and subjectivity in a world dominated by codes, but is also an invitation to rethink the human/non-human connection and how design from a bio-centric perspective can act as a medium between artificial intelligence, automatic learning and empathy.
