Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese artist known for his extraordinary musical compositions which have taken shape in a variety of ways, not least those of the now famous soundtrack of the film, of which he was also the protagonist as an actor alongside David Bowie Furyo - Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence which earned him, among other things, the Oscar Award and the collaboration with Madonna in the famous song by the American pop artist Rain. But Sakamoto, who passed away prematurely in 2023, was above all an avant-garde artist, interested in pioneering experimentation in the use of electronic music. In this first major retrospective exhibition dedicated to him we will find the sound installations presented three-dimensionally in exhibition spaces that Ryuichi Sakamoto developed in the 2000s and created in collaboration with various artists. This exhibition will also present a new work that Sakamoto had imagined before his passing for this particular occasion and a chronicle of his artistic efforts, dynamically constructed in spaces inside and around the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art building.
