Ngerebong is a type of gathering that takes place at Pura Agung Petilan, a temple in one of the suburbs of Denpasar. It is one of the many traditional festivals that take place on the island throughout the year. Also called Pengerebongan, it is a ritual that belongs to the Hindu tradition and is centered on the concept of harmony. It is believed that the gods meet at the temple. To celebrate the event, people from the local community gather in traditional clothes to pray, watch cockfights, dance and listen to music. For the occasion, the street is decorated with giant penjar. During the ceremony, it often happens that some participants fall into a state of trance.
