The Personal Exhibition of Young Artist Tan Yingjie

The Personal Exhibition of Young Artist Tan Yingjie
#Exhibitions

Born in 1992 in the province of Hunan, Tan Yingjie uses a plurality of languages, especially installations, as can be seen in the current exhibition at the Hunsand Center for Contemporary Art. The exhibition, through installations created with composite materials, invites us to reflect on the nature of information, on its circulation, on the increasing or absent state of connection between us and the world around us, using the idea of a shell, as suggested by the title The Stolen Shell, as a metaphor. Among the more intimist works, Dedicated, a sonic installation for the creation of which the artist selected 100 classic books of human and social sciences, each of which contains a dedication page and the information from which is transmitted to the public by a recorded female voice. The dedication of a book - an expression of gratitude or admiration - also reveals the original intention of the author - the creation of a work for somebody specific. However, the information contained in a text is not limited to speaking to the recipient of a dedication - through a continuous circle, it reaches all of us, as this exhibition fully demonstrates.
