In just over a decade, Dubai Design Week has evolved from a regional platform to a leading meeting point for contemporary design in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The next edition, scheduled for November 2026 at the Dubai Design District, follows the 2025 edition, which attracted over 135.000 visitors, more than a thousand designers and creatives, and participants from over fifty countries. Founded in 2015, the event has gradually expanded its scope, transforming into an event that encompasses more than just furniture design and collectibles. In recent years, the festival has shifted its focus to themes related to public space, urban ecology, sustainable materials, and the relationship between communities, territory, and cultural infrastructure. A central part of the program will continue to revolve around Downtown Design, the festival's flagship fair, which in the 2025 edition brought together over 330 brands and designers from 35 countries. Alongside major international brands, the project has strengthened the presence of independent studios, emerging designers, and practices related to contemporary craftsmanship in the region over the years. Programs expected to return in 2026 include Abwab, dedicated to designers from the Global South, and Urban Commissions, a platform inviting architects and studios to design installations and temporary structures for public spaces. In the latest edition, many projects focused on the relationship between climate, local materials, and vernacular architecture, reflecting a growing focus on adaptive and sustainable construction practices. Another increasingly central focus is education and local creative economies. The UAE Designer Exhibition, expanded in 2025, has involved over thirty young designers residing in the UAE, while the new d3 Award has introduced a platform dedicated to emerging talent from the Middle East and North Africa.
