Jill Magi, Art and Poetry

Jill Magi, Art and Poetry
#Exhibitions

“Poetry can take the language that we use for every day and let it dance.” This is just one of the definitions that Jill Magi attributes to poetry and its meaning. Nominated, in 2011, as one of the top fifty stimulating authors in the world by Poets & Writers Magazine, Jill Magi is an artist, writer, teacher and literary critic who works with texts, images, fabrics, paintings and drawings. Experimentation and continuous research are just a few of her distinctive traits, but they are surely emblematic ones. She is the author of six books of poetry and of numerous handmaid books. She has also directed an independent publishing house for ten years, Sona Books, while also teaching for over twenty years at colleges and universities, including New York University of Abu Dhabi, where she currently teaches poetry, literature and art, as well as being co-founder, along with Shamma Al Bastaki and Sarah AlMehairi, of the JARA Collective, an editorial project with its home in the United Arab Emirates. The Weft in Pencil, the personal exhibition of Jill Magi at Warehouse421, presents paintings and works in fabric that look at the concept of the gird as a regenerative space, organised as part of the Artistic Development Exhibition Program, in collaboration with The Institute for Emerging Art.
