We all know him for his monumental works of public art, but Anish Kapoor has other gifts to reveal. This is the crux of the exhibition at the Lisson Gallery, which focuses on his painting, enhanced with silicon reliefs and welded steel. Colour has always been a key element in the work of the Indian artist and, here, his work is tinged by carmine red - with watercolours, gouaches and sculpture, Kapoor invites into a world of caotica and visceral sensations, hovering between two and three dimensions, between the search for form and its loss. Kapoor has painted throughout his entire forty-year career, entwining it intimately into his geometric language that we have come to know in his celebrated sculptures of mirror and stone. Outside the gallery, visitors will find three blocks of Iranian onyx, pink onyx and granite, in which the solidity of matter itself is, once again, questioned regarding what it is to become - an invitation to enter within the cavities dressed in veils, exploring the voids and solids for an inevitable sense of transcendence. Then only to lose oneself in a parallel world of firm brushstrokes, vibrant shades and swollen surfaces like living flesh, in search of the secret of being Anish Kapoor.
