Social networks are ephemeral and superficial? It depends on how we use them. Francesco Vezzoli attempts to show this with the first work of art conceived on Instagram for Instagram. The artist from Brescia continues his fellowship with the Fondazione Prada in the name of love - after Comizi di Non-Amore which, in 2004, reinterpreted the famed Comizi D’Amore by Italian intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini, contaminating them with the rules of a reality show, Love Stories transforms the functions of Instagram into artistic tools, turning the internet into a place for research, reflection and provocation. Vezzoli uses the surveys tied to the celebrated Instagram stories to explore ideas about couples, solitude, sex, the body, alterity and belonging. For ten weeks, the artist offered the public both questions and answers to choose from, associating these with carefully selected images and an aria from a famous opera. Story after story, the results include comments from personalities from the world of art, culture and the media universe with texts, videos and other forms of creative content. Visual short circuits, unexpected references and a healthy dose of irony wind through the entire project - a game which only seems lighthearted which uses the ambivalent logic of the digital world to create a genealogy of sentiment for the new millennium.
