The Introspective Atmospheres of Liu Ye at the Fondazione Prada

The Introspective Atmospheres of Liu Ye at the Fondazione Prada
#Exhibitions

In a sort of ambiguity suspended between reality and invention, the creative universe of Liu Ye combines various creative forces, from memory to imagination, from observation to artistic education. Accessible and impenetrable at the same time, the journey of this artist is revealed through art, the instrument used by the painter to explore and discover himself, all in a context founded on the reciprocal exchange between art and daily life. Inaugurated at Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai in 2018, this exhibition of the Chinese painter comes to Milan with a selection of 35 paintings dating back as far as 1992. The intimate and sensual imagery of the artist finds inspiration in literature and art history, but also the pop culture of the East and West. His atmospheres evoke purity, suspension and introspection. In contact with the cement walls and industrial architecture of the spaces of the Fondazione Prada, the paintings find a chromatic and material contrast with the exhibition space, highlighting the pictorial universe of Liu Ye, stranger to any identifiable artistic movement.
