The Italian Queen of the Abstractism comes to the Museo del Novecento. Approximately 70 paintings, photos and documents depict Carla Accardi in a new light, with a careful look at the historical, social and artistic contexts that marked her existence. “We are interested in the form of the lemon, not the lemon,” Carla wrote authoritatively after the Second World War, breaking the hold of realism on Italian culture. A bigger-than-life character already fighting against male chauvinism at the time, Accardi went through the XX Century, interpreting the expressive needs of a society in transformation. Pioneer of Abstract Art, a bridge to Arte Povera and Conceptual Art, a tireless experimenter of techniques, mediums, formats, relations, the artist from Trapani made discussion, especially with younger artists, a constant in her career. At the Museo del Novecento, we see every step she took from her start with the Constructivists of the 1950s with the Forma Group to her reflections in Colori, from her intuitions with Plastiche and the Installazioni to the conceptual turnabout with Telai, up to the large and vivaciously coloured canvases which, at the end of the XX Century, signalled her return to painting. The exhibition is yet another stop in the project I Talenti delle Donne from the the City of Milan.
Luigi Sacchi, Alessandro Duroni, Luca Fortunato Comerio were among the first to immortalise the city’s artistic heritage with its works of art, monuments and historic events.
