Inside Alda Fendi and Jean Nouvel’s Space, Photography Becomes an Experience

Act 3/3: In the Space | Courtesy Rhinoceros Gallery

In Rome, the final chapter of an exhibition project dedicated to photography and its fundamental elements comes to a close, hosted in the spaces of Rhinoceros, the complex conceived by Alda Fendi and designed by Jean Nouvel. After exploring light and time, this exhibition invites the public to reflect on space - not only as a physical environment, but as an emotional, mental and cultural experience. The exhibition offers a journey in which photographs, installations and sculptures turn space into something to be crossed and lived. In Rome, a city built on layers, this theme takes on a special meaning: space becomes memory, an accumulation of stories, and a continuous dialogue between past and present. Some artists work with real places shaped by time, such as Vittoria Gerardi, who reinterprets Pompeii as a space suspended between destruction and preservation. Others, like Renato D’Agostin, transform Venice into an almost abstract vision made of rhythm and matter. Mary-Ellen Bartley, instead, adopts an intimate and quiet approach inspired by Giorgio Morandi, where space is condensed into small gestures and essential forms. In an age of fast and superficial images, Act 3/3: In the Space invites viewers to slow down, observe and inhabit the works, reminding us that space is not only what we see, but also how we move and think within the world.
