Sophie Henriette Gertrud Taeuber-Arp was a Swiss artist, painter, sculptor, textile designer, furniture and interior designer, architect and dancer. Born in 1889 in Davos, Switzerland, she began her career as a textile designer, then moved on to compositions of intricate geometric forms in the realm of painting and interior decoration. Her husband Jean Arp was also an artist and a poet. He created collages, reliefs and sculptures based on forms he discovered by chance. This exhibition presents a pair of extraordinary artists from the first half of the twentieth century, displaying their individual works while drawing attention to their mutual influences and collaborative works, to reassess the creative potential of what can rightly be called a true partnership.
