Windows on female art in China

Windows on female art in China
#Exhibitions

Women and art in China. This is the context in which the research of Pan Yuliang, Zhou Sicong and Xiao Huixiang fits. The title of the exhibition alludes to the intimacy of the creative space reduced to its minimum terms: a room with a window through which the light enters. This is the indispensable universe for painting, it was especially so for women artists who were the first to undertake the battle for spiritual, individual and human freedom in general. The exhibition sheds light on the path of emancipation of Chinese women, which began already in the 20th century, an era in which China was moving towards a path of transition and change. Driven to find adequate economic and political recognition and pursuing gender equality, China's first female artists found freedom in their "room with windows." Thanks to their commitment and dedication they paved the way for the success of the generations to follow.
