The artist who initially studied scenography is now known for her innovative approach to painting and her social commitment. During the 1980s Lubaina Himid was one of the most engaged voices of the British Black Arts Movement and actively contributed to the development of British black arts. The result is a portrait of an artist who has never been afraid to experiment with different media and supports from canvas, to cut-outs, to found objects and to sound installations, as long as she was free to express herself.
