The Zayed National Museum will open in December 2025 in Abu Dhabi, in the expanding Saadiyat Cultural District. The building, designed by Foster + Partners, features five tapered steel towers inspired by the wings of a falcon, a symbol of Emirati identity, and is poised to become a new architectural and cultural landmark in the region. The institution will chronicle a historical span of over 300.000 years, from the ancient communities that inhabited the Arabian Peninsula to the formation of the United Arab Emirates and the modern vision championed by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The six permanent galleries will house artifacts of great historical and symbolic value, including the Abu Dhabi Pearl, among the oldest in the world, pages from the famous Blue Quran, and a full-scale replica of the Magan Bronze Boat, the result of a collaboration between local universities and research centers. The museum aims to be much more than an exhibition space. It will be a hub for research and public participation, designed to narrate the national history not only through objects, but also through emotional experiences, testimonies, audiovisual materials, and immersive installations. The goal is to offer a multifaceted and inclusive narrative of Emirati identity, connecting heritage and future. The collection is the result of exchanges and loans with leading international museums and is part of a broader cultural diplomacy strategy. The museum aims to become a platform for dialogue between generations, cultures, and disciplines, promoting a dynamic and shared reading of history. With the opening of the Zayed National Museum, Abu Dhabi further strengthens the role of the Saadiyat Cultural District as a world-class museum district, alongside institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the teamLab Phenomena immersive center, the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Natural History Museum, opening in 2026. Anticipation for the inauguration is high: the museum represents a decisive step in building a national memory that looks to the past with pride and to the future with awareness.
